2012 AMV Contest Information And rules!!!
Thank you for your interest in Ohayocon 2012’s AMV contest. Before submitting your entry,
please read the contest rules in its entirety. Failure to comply with any rules will result in
disqualification or outright rejection of your video. The contestant will be referred to, in the rules, as
the editor of the video from here on out.
Official Contest Information:
The contest viewing will last for 2 hours. The goal is to fit as many of the best submitted videos
as possible into this time frame. There will be no overflow showing this year.
This year, we will have 6 categories to choose from. Each category will have a limit of 6 entries
but no fewer than 3, qualifying for the contest. If there is a shortage of one or more categories, the
AMV liaison will post this on the forums to encourage more entries in the categories in shortage. The
AMV liaison reserves the right to re-assign videos to a category that is deemed more appropriate or best
fit. The editor will be notified on the change and will be given the opportunity to either accept or
withdraw the video from the contest.
The categories are as follows:
- Drama
- Upbeat/Dance
- Comedy
- Romance
- Action
- And introducing, Manga Music Video, or MMV for short
All videos submitted will be screened and chosen by the AMV liaison. A list of accepted entries
will be posted on the Ohayocon forums as well as AnimeMusicVideos.org forums, 2 weeks prior to con-
time.
The best videos of each category will be picked by a panel of judges as well as their overall
favorite of the contest (a change from previous years!). The audience will also have a chance to
vote to pick their favorites (similar to previous years).
Awards will be given out for the following:
•Best of category (Drama, Upbeat/Dance, Comedy, Romance, Action, MMV)
•Audience Overall Favorite
•Judge’s Overall Favorite
The editor does not have to be present to win. If the editor cannot attend, nor have a proxy,
the AMV liaison will mail out the award. If the editor’s address is out of the United States, then a SASE
will be needed to mail the award, but in this case instructions will be provided after Ohayocon 2012 is completed.
Registration Info:
The contest registration form will go online, via Ohayocon.org, on September 1st 2011.
Each editor must fill out this form in its entirety before the video can be submitted to the AMV
liaison. A written registration form can be mailed; however it is highly recommended you fill out the on-
line form. Ohayocon will not provide a written form this year, as the written and online forms from last
year provided confusion.
It is highly recommended, when submitting the video, to use Megaupload or any reputable
upload site. In doing so, the editor must submit an e-mail to the AMV liaison with the download link in
the body of the e-mail. Entries can also be put on any physical media (CD-R, DVD-R, etc.) and mailed
physically. These entries must be burned as a DATA disc and not authored. All physical media
submitted will become property of Ohayocon and thus not returned. Please format the file name as:
your name – video title.avi (or any other reputable file name)
All videos submitted must be accompanied by the following information:
•Full Legal Name
•E-mail address, only if the video is sent through physical mail
•Nickname or Studio Name (if applicable)
•Title of the AMV
•Song title(s) and Artist(s)
•Name(s) of source video (or manga) footage
•Main Category and Alternate Category
For editors sending in their video via physical mail, please put this information on a separate
form (again, Ohayocon will not be providing written forms this year). For editors sending in their videos
via e-mail, please put this information in the body of the e-mail.
Although it is not required, it is highly recommended that the editor send the audio source with
the video. If he/she doesn’t provide the audio source and there are issues with the audio from the
video, then the editor will be asked to provide the audio source. If he/she doesn’t, then the video will
be rejected outright.
This year, the Ohayocon AMV contest will allow editors to submit up to two videos to the
contest. Because the video information is part of the registration form, editors who plan on sending
two videos must fill out the online form twice. Editors are not allowed to submit 2 videos to the same
category.
The contest registration form will close on Dec 19th, 2011. All video must be received by Jan 1st
2012. No exceptions.
AMV Rules:
Only videos created after Feb 1st, 2011 (first time Ohayocon entry) and have not won at least
three major awards (best in category, best in show, etc.) in previous AMV contests will be accepted. If
the video does win its third award after the submission deadline has passed, it will not be counted
against the contestant.
Video entries must be at least 1 min in length and not exceed 5 minutes running time.
No Bumpers or Credits will be permitted. We will provide our own uniform bumpers that
coincide with the theme of Ohayocon.
There needs to be at least 1 second of black space before and after the video.
The video must contain 75% of either Japanese Animation or Video Game footage. The video
game footage must be Japanese-produced.
For editors submitting a Manga Music Video, it must contain at least 85% manga footage.
The video’s content must be PG-13. No songs with racial content (deliberately expressing the
superiority of one race over another), sexually explicit content, or the “7 words you can never say on
television” (you can submit a video with “language” as long as you edit/bleep these words sufficently),
no gore (a little blood is acceptable but not much beyond that), and any and all bodies need to be
covered with at least 45% of clothing (no private parts shown). Innuendo is acceptable as long as the
images are not explicit.
All major video formats will be accepted as long as the video is of clear viewable quality and the
audio is clear and concise.
Video resolution should be no lower than frame width of 720 and frame height of 480. Audio
must be 2-Channel .
The following will not be allowed in the video:
•Dubbed sound from licensed commercial translation
•Logos
•Watermarks
•Screen Names
•Fan produced subtitles (editors are allowed to create their own subtitles relating to the
AMV, not the source material, but please keep in mind that this will be shown on a DVD
format, which may stretch the video out, resulting in the subtitles getting cut off)
The AMV Liaison reserves the right to reject any video for any reason. Rules are subject to
change. The editor will be contacted, as soon as possible, if major changes are necessary to
make the entry suitable for screening.

Message from the AMV Liaison:
This is my second year as the AMV Liaison and I want to make this coming year’s contest better
than last year’s. So please, if you have any questions regarding the rules, do not hesitate to ask. I
promise to respond within at least 2 days of your e-mail. If you do decide to submit a video, please just
make sure it aligns with the rules above. Make it as entertaining and creative as you can. Also, if you
know of anyone who edits AMVs, please send them our way. The more videos I have to choose, the
better the contest will be. Once again, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in
our AMV contest and I look forward to your videos.
