If you do not fit the criteria for joining Ohayocon Staff and want to work on building up your experience to be on the Ohayocon Staff, volunteering is the way to start out. Once you get a peek at the inside, you can decide where you want to go from there. Start your convention path with our @con Volunteers...also fondly known as "The Gopher Department".

A gopher's job is to help out wherever they are needed. When somebody needs something held for a moment, you'll be there! When there is a box to be moved, you'll be there! You become a savior to everyone as you make all their tasks that much simpler. While many see the volunteer as the lowest position in a convention, those in the know can tell you a well oiled convention is a well volunteered convention. Join the @con Volunteer department now and become the oil that keeps the mecha of justice that is Ohayocon running smooth and providing joy to all the Anime fan girls and boys!

If you are 18 or older and have at least 2 years of convention experience, you may want to consider going straight for the gold and apply to join staff. Please PM or email HR for more information. For those of you who won't be 18 in time for the convention, volunteering is your chance to get involved and earn your way through the weekend.

To become an @con Volunteer...

We need volunteers all weekend, starting on Thursday for convention setup! To start volunteering, we have a few mandatory requirements...

Requirements for Volunteers under the age of 18:

At least 15 years old.
A valid Driver's License, State ID, or College ID with your name, picture, and birth date on it.
An Ohayocon Parental Consent and Release Form (Download Link - PDF).
Registered to attend Ohayocon (Ohayocon Attendee Badge, can pre-reg or register at con).
Good spirits and a positive attitude!

Requirements for Volunteers over the age of 18:

Registered to attend Ohayocon (Ohayocon Attendee Badge, can pre-reg or register at con).

You must be registered for Ohayocon as an attendee in order to gopher. A Gopher badge is not a substitute for an Attendee Badge, is not a Staff badge, nor any other type of Ohayocon badge.

Being an @con Volunteer is rewarding!

No good deed goes unrewarded! That's right! There is some material incentive to becoming a volunteer. The reward system is based on the number of hours you have worked, and putting in as many as you can is well worth it!

Volunteering for 12 hours will earn you an official Ohayocon T-Shirt!

Volunteering for 20 hours will earn you free pre-registered admission to next year’s Ohayocon!

Volunteering for 24 hours gives you a choice of two rewards to pick from!

Option #1: Reimbursement of your admission for Ohayocon! If you paid for the weekend to attend, you will earn this back after volunteering to help out at Ohayocon.
Option #2: A $25 Gift Card (Visa/Mastercard) (updated on 10/16 mp)

Some of you may be asking, “What happened with a Gopher shirt?” We are switching to armbands this year! While on volunteering duty, you will have a stylish armband and our awesome gopher badges to let everyone know that you are here helping out our great and smooth running convention!

@con Volunteer Information To Know

Some of the tasks that an @con Volunteer handle include...

Helping move boxes to various locations
Line control for registration, live events, etc.
Helping make deliveries, Badge checking for Dealer's Room and Live Events
Running small errands when needed (within the convention center)

Some of the tasks that an @con Volunteer are not for include...

Handle money
Act as Security
Deal with VIPs, Guests, or CC Security
